Get Involved in Sustainability Related Events, Activities and Initiatives

At Swansea University we offer students, staff and the local community opportunities to get involved in our work to improve practices across our campuses and help us continue to lead the way in developing a more sustainable future for all. We regularly hold working groups across the year on a variety of sustainability topics including carbon management, Fairtrade, environmental management and waste. This year, Student Volunteering Week is taking place from Monday 8 – Sunday 14 February and Discovery Student Volunteering Swansea, in conjunction with the Students’ Union, has some fab events in our digital volunteering programme. We will also be celebrating Swansea University student volunteers and the impact that they have on their local community throughout the week.

Fairtrade Fortnight - Vegan Fairtrade Chocolate and Tahini Cake Recipe Video Anytime Anytime Online Students and Staff

Fairtrade Fortnight - Fairtrade Campaigner Forum 23/02/21 6pm-7pm Zoom Students and Staff

Fairtrade Fortnight - Conversation with Haj Rafeeq Hussein, a Palestinian Farmer 25/02/21 12pm Zoom Students and Staff 

Olive oil suppliers, Zaytoun, have organised an online conversation with a farmer from the Palestinian village of Ti'innik on the importance of Fairtrade to his community, the challenges of farming under occupation and the uncertainties of climate change. Find out more and register. Hosted by Zaytoun, Olive Oil Supplies.               

Fairtrade Fortnight - Climate Change Coffee Morning with Jenipher 27/02/21 11am-12pm Zoom Students and Staff

Join Fair Trade Wales for a chat about climate change with a video message from Jenipher, a Fairtrade coffee farmer in Uganda. We’ll learn about how climate change is affecting crops and farmers and how buying Fairtrade can make a difference. Find out more and register. Hosted by Fairtrade Wales.

Fairtrade Fortnight - Workshop: Fairtrade on Campus 03/03/21 1.30pm - 3.30pm Zoom Students

Join the Swansea University Sustainability Team to discuss all things Fairtrade across our campuses. Fairtrade Fortnight - Climate Justice for a Fairer World: A panel discussion on tackling climate change & inequality 04/03/21 7pm-8.30pm Zoom Students and Staff

Fairtrade Fortnight - Fairtrade Cocktail Class 06/03/21 7.30pm-8.30pm Zoom Students and Staff 

Join Hoogah Cafe and Bar for a fun cocktail demonstration session using Fairtrade spirits. Angie will host an introduction to fair trade bartending, come along and learn about some great products on the market and boost your cocktail knowledge along the way! Fairtrade Fortnight - Adapting to Change in Cambodia 09/03/21 7pm-8.30pm Online Students and Staff

Our Sustainability Award is available to any student, of any subject, in any year of their degree! It's formally recognised alongside your degree, and even contributes towards your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR).
