Dr Aled Eirug is an experienced policy adviser and consultant in media, culture and public policy. As a senior journalist for 25 years, he was Head of News and Current Affairs for BBC Wales for 13 years, and was responsible for leading BBC Wales’s coverage of devolution and the National Assembly for Wales. As constitutional adviser to the Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales (2007-2011) he was responsible for developing the committee and scrutiny functions of the Assembly. In that capacity he advised on the Assembly’s inquiry into broadcasting (2008) and the newspaper industry in Wales (2009). He was policy officer for the NHS Confederation (2011-2012), advised the Education Minister on Welsh language policy (2012-2013), and reviewed support for the creative industries for the Welsh Government (2013-2014). He was a member of S4C’s Authority and chair of its content committee (2013-2015), is a member of Ofcom’s Content Board, and is a member of the Morgan Academy in Swansea University, a policy institute established in memory of the former First Minister, Rhodri Morgan.

He is a member of the Audit and Risk committee of the National Assembly for Wales, and is chair of the Tailored Review into the National Library of Wales (September 2019 – March 2020).
