Personal & Professional Attributes
This module focuses on foundational knowledge of the principles and responsibilities that underpin safe and effective practice for paramedics and introduces learners to the expectations of professional behaviour, including the standards of conduct, performance and ethics set out by the HCPC.
The module introduces learners to some of the domains within the College of Paramedics curriculum guidance and facilitates the development of interpersonal skills that support inclusive engagement with service users, families, carers and the wider community. The module will introduce core knowledge and practical skills that support learners¿ ability to perform basic life support independently and as part of a team. The module introduces a variety of concepts directly related to the paramedic profession and is supported by a range of e-learning approaches that will facilitate learning and development aligned to this module.
Practice based learning will be supported by a five week placement with the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust¿s Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services (NEPTS), enabling learners to engage and communicate with a wide range of patients with varying needs. This foundational placement will prepare learners to the world of professional practice, offering an insight into the pre-hospital environment and allowing application of taught theory.

Mae'r modiwl hwn yn canolbwyntio ar wybodaeth sylfaenol am yr egwyddorion a'r gwerthoedd sydd wrth wraidd ymarfer diogel ac effeithiol ar gyfer parafeddygon. Mae'n rhoi gwybod i ddysgwyr am ddisgwyliadau o ran ymddygiad proffesiynol, gan gynnwys safonau ymddygiad, perfformiad a moeseg y Cyngor Proffesiynau Iechyd a Gofal (HCPC).
Mae'r modiwl yn rhoi gwybod i ddysgwyr am rai o feysydd arweiniad cwricwlwm Coleg y Parafeddygon ac yn hwyluso'r broses o fagu sgiliau rhyngbersonol sy'n cynnwys ymgysylltiad cynhwysol â defnyddwyr gwasanaethau, teuluoedd, gofalwyr a'r gymuned ehangach. Bydd y modiwl yn cyflwyno gwybodaeth graidd a sgiliau ymarferol sy'n cefnogi gallu dysgwyr i ddarparu cymorth bywyd sylfaenol yn annibynnol ac fel rhan o dîm.
Mae'r modiwl yn cyflwyno amrywiaeth o gysyniadau sy'n ymwneud yn uniongyrchol â phroffesiwn parafeddygon ac mae'n cael ei ategu gan amrywiaeth o ddulliau e-ddysgu a fydd yn hwyluso dysgu a datblygu sy'n cyd-fynd â'r modiwl hwn.
Caiff dysgu ar sail ymarfer ei ategu gan leoliad gwaith pum wythnos gyda Gwasanaethau Cludo Cleifion Mewn Achosion Nad Ydynt yn Rhai Brys (NEPTS) Ymddiriedolaeth GIG Gwasanaethau Ambiwlans Cymru, gan alluogi dysgwyr i ymgysylltu a chyfathrebu ag amrywiaeth eang o gleifion ag anghenion amrywiol. Bydd y lleoliad gwaith sylfaenol yn paratoi dysgwyr ar gyfer byd ymarfer proffesiynol, gan gynnig dealltwriaeth o'r amgylchedd cyn cyrraedd yr ysbyty a'u galluogi i roi damcaniaethau a addysgir ar waith.
Bridging Module (Paramedic)
This module is aimed at emergency medical technicians (EMTs) who would like to access higher education with a view to achieving a recordable paramedic qualification. This module introduces students to core principles that underpin paramedic practice such as research, ethics, law and health promotion. The module will also revisit anatomy and pathophysiology which students have learned during their EMT qualifications.
Modiwl Pontio (Parafeddyg)
Mae'r modiwl hwn wedi'i anelu at dechnegwyr meddygol brys (EMTs) sy¿n dymuno cael mynediad i addysg uwch gyda'r bwriad o gyflawni cymhwyster parafeddyg cofnodadwy. Mae¿r modiwl hwn yn cyflwyno myfyrwyr i egwyddorion craidd sy¿n sail i ymarfer parafeddygol megis ymchwil, moeseg, y gyfraith a hybu iechyd. Bydd y modiwl hefyd yn ailedrych ar anatomeg a phathoffisioleg y mae myfyrwyr wedi'u dysgu yn ystod eu cymwysterau EMT.
Health Promotion and Public Health (Adult)
Health promotion and public health are essential components of the nurseâ€¿s role. This module aims to provide students with an understanding of public health development, the nurseâ€¿s role and priorities for action such as inequalities, advocacy and partnership working. Key principles of health promotion and its role within public health will also be explored. The module will also provide students with knowledge of how to promote health within practice across the lifespan in a variety of settings.
Managing Complex Care in Rapidly Changing Situations (Adult)
This module aims to give an overview of specialist aspects of nursing practice, especially when care can be considered complex and situations rapidly change. The module also aims to give a greater insight into the application of legal, ethical and professional issues to practice. This module draws on the content of modules within Years 1 and 2 and experiences in practice to consolidate the knowledge, skills and attitude for professional practice in the field of adult nursing.
Managing Complex Care in Rapidly Changing Situations (Mental Health)
This module aims to give an overview of specialist aspects of mental health nursing practice, especially when care can be considered complex and situations rapidly change. The module also aims to give a greater insight into the application of legal, ethical and professional issues to practice. This module draws on the content of modules within Years 1 and 2 and experiences in practice to consolidate the knowledge, skills and attitude for professional practice in the field of mental health nursing.
Assessing decision making capacity
This module adopts an active learning flipped classroom approach to enable students to undertake evidence based assessments of decision making capacity under the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
Students are required to pass a practical assessment as well as complete an academic assignment.
Dissertation (MA Medical Law and Ethics)
A supervised programme of reading and critical reflection upon an agreed topic area within medical law and ethics leading to the production of a written dissertation not normally exceeding 20,000 words.
Determining best interests
This module adopts an active learning blended approach to enable students to undertake evidence based determinations of best interests under the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
Introduction to Law and Medicine
This module introduces the legal system in England & Wales and its role in medicine. Students will be introduced to the nature of law and legal argument and learn how to evaluate case law in relation to consent to examination and treatment.
Patients, Professionals and the Law
This module introduces the students to the law relating to negligence, reproduction, end of life issues and confidentiality through the use of case law and statute law.
Mental Health, Mental Capacity and the Law
This module introduces students to the laws relating to mental health and mental capacity. Case law will be used to analyse the role of law in this area and mental health will be used as a basis for considering the impact of human rights on healthcare.
Values based Practice and Ethical Decision Making in Mental Health Services
This module aims to help students to:
1. identify and where appropriate intervene in mental health settings to counter decisions that may be based on
2. respect the abilities and backgrounds of users and carers of mental health services and promote culturally and
linguistically sensitive practice.
3. promote the rights, dignity and self-determination of individuals and recognise in their work individuals¿ needs for
personal respect, choice, dignity and privacy.
Policy and Law in mental health services
The module will include those items identified in the WAG Regulations Key Competence Area 2 (The Application of Knowledge: Legislation and Policy) and those items identified in the Social Care Wales key skills under 'Legislation and Systems' and 'Professional Responsibilities'.
Understanding Mental Health and Mental Distress
This module addresses the principal models of mental distress and their relationship to the role of the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP). Biomedical and psychological models are considered and there is a key emphasis on the social perspective required of AMHPs.
Professional Decision Making and Partnership in Mental Health
This module considers the judgment and decision making required when taking account of the wishes and feelings of the individual, their cultural background, social and family background, the nature of the mental disorder and its likely course when reaching conclusions in the role of the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP).
