About

Dr Geertje van Keulen is Associate Professor in Biochemistry in the Institute of Life Science at Swansea University.  

She embarked on what turned out to become an interdisciplinary career journey by obtaining first an MSci degree in Chemistry, majoring in Biochemistry, and a PhD in Microbial Physiology and Molecular Microbiology, both obtained from the University of Groningen in The Netherlands. Her first postdoc position was in her first interdisciplinary project Pepticoat with microbial and marine biologists, polymer and paint chemists and marine materials technologists

Geertje furthermore collaborates with hundreds of women in STEMM especially through her public engagement activities with Soapbox Science Swansea.
