About

I am a lecturer in Human Geography at Swansea University, and have been a fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2023. I currently lead the ‘Changing Ourselves and Our University’ research theme for the Climate Action Research Institute of Swansea University.

I have a broad training as both an environmental scientist and, more recently, a human geographer. Through my PhD and postdoctoral work I specialised in the intersections between the climate/ecological crises, creativity (with particular interest in ‘everyday’ creativities), and stories, helping to develop new frameworks and imaginaries for responding to these crises in more just and careful ways. I recently co-edited the book ‘Art and Creativity in an Era of Ecocide’ (Bloomsbury 2023). A central strand of my work relates to bringing ecological sensibilities, care, and creativity into the classroom, and contributing to the wider question of how universities should and could transform to be leaders in cultivating the practical and emotional intelligence for the climate and ecological crises.

Outside of my teaching and research commitments, I am a regular contributor to public media on the subject of the climate crisis, activism, and education, and have written recently for Times Higher Education, The Conversation, Open Democracy, and Environmental Politics.
