Electronic and Electrical Engineering, MSc

The first year of the MSc offers a selection of compulsory and optional 10-credit modules on subjects including power semiconductor devices, advanced power systems, optical fibre communications and nanoscale structures and devices.

Your second year is entirely dedicated to a dissertation project, worth 60 credits.

Usually the entry requirements for the MSc Electronic and Electrical Engineering course is a first or second class honours degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or a similar relevant engineering or science discipline.

We welcome applications by prospective students from around the world and look for evidence of previous study that is equivalent to the entry requirements stated above. If English is not your first language you will need an acceptable pass in an approved English Language qualification to make sure you get the full benefit from studying at Swansea. We consider a wide range of qualifications, including the Swansea University English Test, the British Council IELTS test (with a score of at least 6.5 and 5.5 in each component). Our department uses a variety of teaching methods including; taught/lecture-based, small group work, laboratory-based, project/assignment-based, use of Blackboard. Increasingly lectures are exploring the use of lecture recording, blended learning and flipped learning.

Some provision

There are opportunities for Welsh speakers to study some elements of this postgraduate course through the medium of Welsh but there is not yet enough provision to reach 40 credits in each year. The Programme Director can outline to you what is available in Welsh.

MSc Electronic and Electrical Engineering is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Candidates must hold a CEng accredited BEng/BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree to comply with full CEng registration requirements.
