New equipment - NMR spectroscopy

The latest addition to the MNC’s suite of experimental facilities is a 250MHz Bruker ‘Avance’ NMR Spectrometer which will be used to support several research projects including studies of doubly-metastable liquids under negative pressure.

NMR-based research within the MNC is benefitting from close interaction with Professor Jack G. Powles, formerly of the Physics Department at Canterbury and now a Distinguished Visitor at the MNC. Professor Powles’ group pioneered numerous developments of NMR (his first PhD student, Sir Peter Mansfield, was a joint recipient of the 2003 Nobel Prize for developments in Magnetic Resonance Imaging).
